Masterson’s Pub , positioned in the vibrant core of Moonee Ponds, markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my unfortunate encounter at this establishment quickly devolved into an unforgettable, terrible experience. While the bar may look welcoming at first glance , what I encountered behind its entrance was appalling and beyond comprehension .

From the moment I entered , it was apparent that cleanliness was not a priority at Masterson’s . The floors were sticky , and a foul smell of decaying beverages and dirty bathrooms permeated the entire venue . Smelling a mixture of urine , a rotting odor and sour vomit . The main bar, which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was littered with unwashed glassware and refuse that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . The toilet was in even worse condition —overflowing , with a shattered handle and walls stained in what I can only assume was fecal matter .
It wasn’t just a one-off bad night either.
